My name is Mark Oostveen, aerospace engineer by education and technology enthusiast through and through!
I currently work as an asset management technology consultant, helping industrial companies optimize their asset strategy and utilization to get the most out of their equipment and plant.
Previously, I worked as a senior development engineer for over 17 years on the development of a micro gas turbine for combined heat and power generation, for both domestic and commercial use. Throughout my career, I have been involved in various fields typical of a small high-tech company. My journey began with R&D on a novel gas turbine cycle, evolving to system (control) specification, development, testing, validation, certification and eventually commercialisation. This included both the product itself and the required test infrastructure. Always practical, with both by brain and my hands
Eventually, I supervised field tests and became the manager of the product delivery and service office, responsible for product configuration, system testing, installer training and supporting the delivery of commercial products and its owners. I have always remained involved in product development for new applications and improvements.
Working in a small company has given me a wide task portfolio, and my responsibilities extend to IT, PLM/ERP administration, safety officer, facility management, and various other tasks.
Specialties and Skills
- Gas Turbine: Test rig design, test planning, test execution, test data analysis, condition monitoring, and control.
- CHP: System performance, system integration, control, and cycle optimization.
- Software Development: C#, LabVIEW, and MS SQL Server knowledge used to develop for asset management, gas turbine simulation, and condition monitoring software tools.
- IT: ERP and PLM on-site administrator and key-user.
I see myself as a technology enthusiast, with an open eye for people, customers, and the market. I thrive as a spider in a multi-disciplinary technology web, tying together and balancing the various disciplines involved in high-tech development.
Next to my current job I am available to help and support companies with their challenges and questions within the gas turbine and CHP related fields, energy transition or any other topic where my previous experience is relevant. And of course any other field, that aligns with my personal interests.
Personal interests and hobbies
Next to gas turbines, high tech and technology I keep expanding my interests and hobbies, which currently include, but are not limited to:
- Woodworking I like to make furniture and workshop equipment, all shelf-thought and working from my own garage/workshop.
- Metal fabrication I recently learned myself to both TIG and MIG weld, so far projects consisted of furniture (combined wood and metal), tool racks, woodstorage, fence gate, etc. Whatever is needed in and around my house.
- Drone flights, action cams and video creation Last year I purchased a drone, obtained my drone certificate, and learned the basics of video editing. Currently working on the views on my own YouTube channel.
- Great outdoors: Mountainsports such as skiing, hiking, climbing and/or walking, while admiring the views and since recently filming whatever nature has to show!
